Good day

Today has been a pretty good day.

Hundred Acre Flu

For those of you who don’t know I twitter like it’s my job. I don’t know why I like it so much. I just do. On there I follow friends and family, but I also follow industry folks like Kris Straub, Scott Kurtz, and Skottie Young. I also follow Chris Eliopoulos who does work for Marvel Comics but also does a very cool, very funny Web Comic called Misery Loves Sherman. The other day when Swine Flu or the H1N1 Virus as it’s known to it’s friends was at it’s peak in the news Chris made a tweet about whether or not Christopher Robin would kick Piglet out of the 100 Acre Wood under the current conditions. I thought it was funny and then went to work and in a series of meetings (one of which where we discussed swine flu, I drew the bottom panel in a note book)

Now I am starting a story arc because Mr. Taylor is leaving but my wife who I showed the drawing to really thought it should go into this weeks comic. I decided to do a news parody about it and I am very pleased. Well it’s 2:30 am EST now and I’m plum tuckered out. I have work in a few so I better catch some winks. See you on the brite!

Way to close for comfort

Though we’ve never met or talked (I’ve emailed him and never gotten a reply) Scott Kurtz and I have a little more in common than we’re “married dudes that draw comics”. Our trials and tribulations with our pets seem to link us, not in a creepy stalkerish way, but in a way that only pet owners understand. I think if I ever met him the first question to him would not have anything to do with comics at all, it would be “How’s Kirby doing”. I too have had to watch my wife say goodbye to her beloved pet of 12 years and have had a few run in’s with the vet with our dog and tonight was no different.

You see tonight, well this morning, was very scary. At about 20 to twelve i came in from taking our house guest out side to pee when my wife came into the front hall holding one sock in her hand yelling in terror about the other sock (which she had just pulled out of Brody’s mouth) Brody is our 2 year old Portuguese Water Dog. Before going outside I had pulled the socks I had worn that day out of the pair of sneakers I was slipping on just to go outside in on a table in our living room, Stupidly forgetting that socks are one of Brody’s favorite things to chew/eat. I don’t know I said there were two there when I left, and after a little squabble about what could have happened, we deduced only one scenario. BRODY ATE THE SOCK. Now sheer panic set in. My wife now furious at me for leaving the socks there (we’ve had many a “discussion” about my sometimes lack of care for leaving things around) was frantically looking on line for answers on what to do next I did not know what to do next. The only logical thing was to call the Animal ER and see what they suggest. They suggested I bring him in. So at 12:00am midnight I left my home in the rain, Brody in tow and we went to Ocean State Veterinary Specialists in East Greenwich RI.

I think I was breaking the sound barrier trying to get there, not so smart on wet roads but this really was a matter of life and death. Yes the sock could have killed him, without seeing a Dr. A couple scenarios could have happened 1) He could have thrown it up in the middle of the night and choked to death while we slept or 2) obstructed his bowel to where the poison waste could rupture his intestine (due to the blockage) and he could die. Now for those of you who don’t know me, next to my wife this dog is the most important thing in my world. I often come up with scenarios “just in case” on how I would exact revenge on anyone who did harm to this animal… I won’t share them here… but lets just say you don’t want to hurt my dog, you wouldn’t like what happens to you. But I digress, anyway so what was I to do when it was my own stupidity which lead to my dogs dismal situation?

When we arrived at the Vets they were waiting. Brody was whisked away from me by some kind looking women and after about an hour of waiting the vet emerged. I really thought she was going to tell me that surgery was needed to get the sock out (secretly I was wishing she’d come and say, we did X-RAYS and found nothing) but that was not the case. She told me that they were able to induce vomiting and Brody upchucked the sock and his dinner. What a relief!!! No surgery, no scoping (both would need anesthesia which isn’t always so good for puppies). The people there were terrific, Brody came out all happy to see me a little worse for wear but safe and sound. I felt like a moron even though they tried to assure me I wasn’t. We hopped in the car and now we’re home. Brody is fast a sleep in his crate while I type this. I wrote this post for a few reasons. 1 because this site is where I store most of my life (sometimes when I write it) and 2) so My wife could have it in writing that I WILL CHANGE MY LAZY WAYS AND PUT STUFF AWAY.

It’s sad that tragedy sometimes is the only catalyst for change, and while this wasn’t a total tragedy it could have been. THANK YOU to the staff at OSVS you saved my baby boy and maybe even me and to my 2.4 fans thanks for reading.

Gave Me Chills

So Brian Anderson Tweeted this trailer this afternoon and let me just tell you I almost cried. When I was little This book went EVERYWHERE with me and I’m pretty sure I tattered it up and it got thrown out, A few years ago my mom bought it for me again and It’s still in my book case and I pull it out every now and again. To see Moishe (who is Carol in the Movie) and the others living and breathing is almost a dream come true. Thank you Maurice for allowing this film to be made, it looks amazing, I’ll be there opening day in October you can count on it

Probably Late

Might not be a comic tomorrow. It’s been a hectic week and this one coming is going to be no different.

Go Steelers!

Pardon our appearence

Hi Folks,

Ah no comic right now but I plan on doing one tomorrow. (it will still be monday :) ) I spent the good part of today working on my redesign. I must say I am quite pleased. Now that I’m using CP 2.5 and I don’t have to be a php ninja to get 3 columns, I am excited to start drawing again!!

Good night

NO MORE SNOW!

Well it’s the first post of the new year. This comic came to me after the first of the 3 snow storms we had at the end of december. I realise I’ve been a little absent from the blog, but I’ve been busy. Work and Life don’t afford me the time to write to you guys, and to be honest, I’d rather get the strip up than write a blog entry. I’ll try and post more…

I must say digital art wise, this strip is one of my best. I’m really proud of it.

There’s a lot in the works for 2009… I can’t say much yet, but when the time is right I’ll letcha know.

Time for bed

Don’t Drop The Soap

It’s been a while since I wrote anything here…. But I have great news, keep reading for details!!!!

I can’t take all the credit for this strip… It was totally inspired by an episode of Comics Coast to Coast. If you’re a web comic or a comic artist and don’t listen to this show, then you are missing out. They have so much useful info on there whether it be the shop talk or the interviews it is an inspiration to me. It’s hosted by Justin Thompson of Myth Tickle and Brian Dunaway of Mission Deep. And speaking of interviews I’m going to be on Comics Coast to Coast, and It all started with this strip too.

Last week I emailed Justin to ask if I could use the idea he had talked about on the pod cast in my comic(Web Comic Boy Sez: “It’s always good to get permission to use an Idea you didn’t come up with, you don’t want to be called a lying, cheating, comic loser do you?”. A couple days later he e-mailed me back and said he’d be cool with it and he just wanted to make sure brian was ok with it. In that same email as I read the unthinkable happened… He asked me to be on the show!!!! I was totally floored. Now look, I in no way consider myself one of the greats… Some days I look at my art and shudder… I only hope to be as good as folks like Justin and Brian and to have them ask me to be on the show is a great honor… I only hope I don’t disappoint.  We’re recording Wednesday and I’m assuming the podcast will be up some time after that, so if you’re not already a subscriber, it’s real easy open iTunes or go to their site. I COMMAND YOU!!!!  ok that’s it for me… this cow boy is tired!!

Peace out!

Current mood: modest.

As Luck Would Have It

as-luck-would-have-it

Well I thought I was totally going to drop this story line, but I’m not.  I figure I should stick it out, but instead of the 9 i’ve got sketched and scripted, I’m going to cut it down to the funniest 3 because I have another story line I am dying to start.

If you don’t know who the bunny is in the strip then you must be living under a rock. He’s tucker from Mike Witmer’s Pinkerton Park. Pinkerton is one of the funniest and clever web comics out there, if you don’t visit the site every day you’re doing yourself a disservice. A while back Mike did a Starwars-esque strip where tucker was the emperor and when I was putting these together I thought it would be fun to include him, so I emailed Mike and he said sure. So here it is.

In other news I bought a car. Not a new car, like i had previously blogged about, but a car. A 2002 Hyundai Santa Fe.  It needs a little work but I got a good deal on it. Here’s a pic
